Frequently asked questions

Ranua is located in southern Lapland between the cities of Rovaniemi and Oulu. We are located about one hour away from Rovaniemi and a bit more than two hours away from Oulu.

We would recommend either renting a car or taking a bus.

Our partner have a bus transpoint from Rovaniemi Airport to Ranua from monday to friday at 9:50 am and 4:10 pm.

They also go back to Rovaniemi Airport from Ranua at 6:50 am and 2:20 pm.

There are daily buses from Rovaniemi and Oulu to Ranua. You can check the bus schedules on Matkahuolto website. The buses depart from Rovaniemi and Oulu center and arrive to the center of Ranua which is only about half a kilometer away from our guesthouse.

Along with these options, we can also offer our customers an airport transfer service through private service. This service can be booked through email.

It’s also possible to take a local taxi. If you need help to get a taxi, please contact us.

We offer our customers a wide selection of activities throughout the year. Our most popular activities in winter are husky ride, Reindeer Farm visit, Ranua Zoo visit, ice fishing, gym and guided northern lights hunting. Our partner Lapland Adventure & Hunting also offers guided tours to most beautiful places in daytime. They also have fatbike and snowshoe rental and possibility to make guided tours using them.

Along with our own selection, there are also lots of nature entertainment options available at Ranua Resort. You can also find a comprehensive blog post about winter activities in Ranua on our blog.

Ranua in general is a great place for experiencing the nature of Lapland and our own location is also ideal for nature activities.

We can provide extra mattresses both for the igloos and the guesthouse with the charge of extra sheets which is 20€ /person /day.

Ranua is located close to the Arctic Circle, which means that our town is a really good option when one is looking for northern lights. Compared to cities such as Rovaniemi, we don’t have light pollution even in the center of the village, which means that with good luck you will be able to see the northern lights directly from our accommodation.

The thing to note about in terms of Northern lights is that we can never guarantee that you can see them while staying with us as it is always down to both the space weather and the weather conditions itself. There are plenty of services to check the aurora activity in Lapland. In our opinion, one of the best ones is Foreca’s Auroras and space weather service. Seeing the northern lights strongly depends on the space weather and of course whether the sky is clear or not.

Yes, we have a restaurant and cafeteria that is open daily from 11 am to 7pm. You can check our menu on our restaurant page.

Our igloo guests can also use the lakeside sauna free of charge and all the igloos also have their own WiFi connection. You can find more information about our igloos’ amenities on the igloos’ own page

There is a composting eco toilet inside the igloo. The bathroom itself is located inside our guesthouse and you can use it free of charge. All our igloo guests can also use the popular lakeside sauna free of charge and this option of course includes also a bathing option.

We always try to provide you this option. The best way to do it is by contacting us through email. Remember to include your current booking details and the changes that you would like to make.

In the high season: january, february and april we don’t provide cancellation. Othewise bookings have a free cancellation until 30 days prior the start of the booking. After this time, we will charge a percentage of the cancellation of the booking in a tiered system. Please read the booking and cancellation conditions in more detail.

In these terms, we have sought to end up with a system that is fair to both parties.
